Why choose SEG displays over pop-up banners or vinyl?

SEG is short for silicone edge graphics. A thin silicone strip is sewn around the edge of a dye-sublimated fabric print and pushed into a channel in an aluminium frame. The fabric sits taut and flat, so you get a high-end finish without a complicated build. Backdropsource has made custom printed fabric displays since 2004, and every SEG fabric display in this range is printed to order.

A roll-up banner or vinyl print may cost less on day one. The value of a fabric frame builds over time:

  • Reusable hardware: keep the aluminium frame and order new SEG graphics when your campaign, branding or event changes.
  • Rich colour: dye-sublimation bonds the ink into the fabric fibres rather than leaving it on the surface.
  • Easy transport: most frame-based displays are tool-free and ship with a soft carry bag.
  • Lower-impact fabric: PVC-free options such as 600D eco polyester are available.

Most product pages show two prices. The complete display includes the frame and the print. The replacement print only covers the fabric. Pick the complete option if you are starting fresh, and the print-only option if you already own the matching frame.

Which format suits your trade show, shopfront or office?

Start with where the display will live and how often it will move. The range falls into five main groups.

Lightboxes

An SEG lightbox puts LED lighting behind the fabric so your artwork glows. You can choose frameless freestanding boxes, curved and folding models, lit counters and RGB LED versions. Lightboxes work well in busy expo halls and shop windows.

Non-lit frames and media walls

Without lighting, these frames are simpler and lower in price. Use them for media walls, photo backdrops, office branding and venues with good overhead light.

Wall-mounted frames

These are built for permanent feature walls in receptions, showrooms and retail fit-outs. They come in backlit and non-backlit versions.

Pop-up frames

These are expanding frames sized in modules, from 1*2 up to 4*4, and all are 0.4m deep. Some versions add a TV mount, shelves, a recessed LED showcase or a counter.

Folding kits, counters and truss

Folding panels are 4cm deep and link together into backwalls and full trade show booth layouts. Counters give your team a front desk. Modular truss displays add height and structure to a larger exhibition stand.

Backlit or non-backlit, and which frame depth do you need?

Backlit vs non-backlit

Backlit frames hold LED lighting inside the profile, so the print is lit from behind. They are worth it when you are competing with bright hall lighting, want a shopfront to stand out after dark, or need one hero piece on your stand. You will need a power point nearby, so check what your venue provides. Lighting details are on each product page.

Non-backlit frames need no power and cost less. For example, the Non-Backlit SEG Fabric Media Wall - 3m W is complete from NZD 1809, while the SEG Frameless Fabric LED Light Box Display - 3m W x 2.5m H is complete from NZD 2288.

What the depth numbers mean

Depth is how far the aluminium profile sits out from the wall. It affects the look, the weight and which sizes are available.

  • 20mm and 40mm: slim non-backlit wall-mounted profiles for offices, corridors and tight spaces.
  • 60mm and 80mm: the everyday SEG fabric frame depths for freestanding and wall displays. The 80mm freestanding frames come in backlit and non-backlit versions, in widths up to 2m.
  • 100mm and 120mm: deeper profiles for bigger pieces. The 120mm freestanding frames reach 4m wide, and many backlit booth walls use 120mm.
  • Portable systems: folding panels are 4cm deep and pop-up frames are 0.4m deep, so allow for that in your floor plan.

If you are reordering a print, match the depth and size of the frame you already own.

What size SEG booth kit fits a 3x3m or 6x3m stand?

If your expo stand is 3x3m or 6x3m, a booth kit bundles the backwall, side walls and often a counter or showcase into one package. That way you are not matching parts on the day. Before you choose one:

  1. Confirm your footprint and height limit. Kits are made for 3x3m, 4.5x3m and 6x3m spaces. Many backlit kits come in 3m to 6m widths with heights such as 2m, 2.3m and 2.5m, and pop-up booths reach 3m high. Check the exhibitor manual first.
  2. Decide what the stand needs to do. For lead capture, include a counter. For product launches, look at LED showcases or shelves.
  3. Think about traffic flow. L-shape and corner kits leave sides open to the aisle. U-shape and three-wall kits enclose the space.
  4. Choose lit or non-lit. Backlit walls draw attention across a hall, while folding kits keep the budget lower.

How does ordering, set-up and reuse work?

  1. Choose your frame and size on the product page, and check whether you need the complete display or a replacement print.
  2. Request a free 2D mockup to preview your artwork on the display before anything is printed.
  3. Approve the proof. Nothing goes to print until you do.
  4. Production starts. The lead time is listed on each product page and is often 24 business hours after artwork approval.
  5. Set up on the day. Most frame-based displays assemble without tools and pack into a soft carry bag between events.

Built to be reused

When your branding changes, a new print fits into the same SEG frame. Your next campaign then costs a print rather than a whole display. If we make a print error, we reprint it free. Standard, non-custom items can be returned within 7 days of delivery if unused and in original packaging. Custom-printed graphics cannot be returned once the proof is approved.

All SEG displays in this collection are printed to order. If you are comparing SEG display NZ options, weigh reusability, the free mockup and replacement print pricing alongside the headline price. Product-specific questions are answered in the FAQs below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an SEG display cost in NZ? +
It depends on the format and size, and each product page lists its complete price in NZD. For example, the SEG Frameless Fabric LED Light Box Display - 1m W x 2m H is complete from NZD 709. The SEG Popup Straight Media Wall starts from NZD 1118, and the 3x3m Backlit SEG Three-Wall Booth Kit with 2 Sidewalls from NZD 5468. Most pages also show a lower replacement-print-only price.
What is a silicone edge graphic display? +
It is a display where a fabric print has a silicone strip sewn around its edge. The strip is pressed into a groove in an aluminium frame and holds the fabric under tension, so the graphic sits flat and taut. Because the print is removable, you can replace it later and keep using the same frame for new campaigns or events.
Which SEG lightbox is easiest to move between venues? +
Folding and pop-up models are built for moving around. The SEG Light Box Folding Stand is complete from NZD 1253, and the SEG Fabric Folding Light Box Counter from NZD 1100. The Backlit SEG Pop-Up Straight Display, from NZD 1366, uses an expanding frame. Larger frameless lightboxes and backlit wall kits suit longer installs better.
What is the difference between a pop-up and a folding SEG booth kit? +
Pop-up kits use an expanding frame that is 0.4m deep and sized in modules such as 3*3 or 4*4. They can include counters, TV mounts and showcases. Folding kits use flat panels 4cm deep that link into backwalls, L-shapes and U-shapes, in heights such as 2m or 2.3m. Folding kits take up less floor depth.
Can a fabric lightbox or pop-up hold a TV or products? +
Yes, several models are designed for this. The SEG Popup Display with TV Mount & External Shelves is complete from NZD 1280. The SEG LED Light Box with Shelves starts from NZD 1311, and the SEG Popup - Internal Showcase with Recessed LED Ring from NZD 1484. Check each product page for screen and shelf details before ordering.
Can you get curved fabric displays? +
Yes. The Curved SEG Fabric LED Light Box Display is complete from NZD 1466, and the Non-Backlit Curved SEG Fabric Display from NZD 1228. Both come in 0.85m or 1m widths at 2.5m high. For a wider curved backdrop, the SEG Popup Curved Media Wall comes in 3*3, 3*4 and 4*3 modules and is complete from NZD 1726.
What SEG frame suits a tall foyer or atrium wall? +
Look at the oversize and truss models. The SEG Over Size Light Box Display - 3m W x 4m H is complete from NZD 3952. The Non-Backlit SEG Over Size Fabric Display - 4m H starts from NZD 2777, and the Modular SEG Truss Tower Display from NZD 4464. Confirm your ceiling height and access first, because these are larger builds.
What is an RGB LED fabric light box? +
It is a backlit fabric frame lit with RGB LEDs, so the light behind your print can show colours rather than only white. The RGB LED Fabric Light Box Display comes in five sizes, from 1m W x 2m H to 3m W x 2.4m H, all at 80mm depth. It is complete from NZD 2204 and suits launches and venues where coloured light adds impact.
How many pop-up modules do I need for a 3m wide wall? +
You need four modules across for a 3m-wide wall. Pop-up sizes are written as modules wide by modules high, so 4*3 is 3m W x 2.3m H and 4*4 is 3m W x 3m H, both 0.4m deep. One module across is 0.77m wide, two is 1.5m and three is 2.3m. Two 4*4 frames side by side can cover a 6x3m back wall.
